How did NobuYa Travelers start?
2020 was a year of big changes for us personally. Amid the craziness of the global pandemic, my wife Nobu and I welcomed our first daughter Maya.
My Papi, Jorge, a busy optometrist, finally retired after years of subtle encouragement! He sold his practice in Jackson Heights, Queens of 30+ years and moved to DC to be closer to his granddaughter.
On one of our bike rides down the Anacostia River Trail, I turned to my Papi and said: We should start our own travel company!
Friends and family consider us travel experts and often ask us for advice planning trips. I grew up Peruvian-Chinese-Colombian and love embracing new foods and cultures. Pre-pandemic, you'd find me traveling both for pleasure and in my career in international public health. My Papi was born and raised in Peru and has over 20 years of planning international eyecare missions. Combining these experiences would be a dream come true for both of us!
Papi looked at me, eyes wide, and said "Yes! Let's do it!" Just like that, NobuYa Travelers was born! NobuYa was named in honor of my wife Nobu and our daughter Maya.

Our goal is to share our intimate knowledge and personal love of these unique destinations with you. Let’s make some memories together.

Cheers!
